Snapchat Introduces Family Center

While building a community is important, the safety aspect is vital. Youngsters are more prone to cyber risks.

As the community grows, parents will want more reassurance in terms of their teens' digital safety. To make this a reality, an in-app tool is introduced, "Family Center", which helps parents to get more insights on their kids' digital activities similar to those in the real-world. Parents know who their kids are hanging out with but don't eavesdrop on their conversations. Similarly with this tool, parents can know about their teens' friends list but can't monitor their chats. Teens need their privacy too!

The goal is to help empower parents and teens in a way that still protects a teenager’s autonomy and privacy. Snapchat plans on adding additional features to Family Center, including new content controls for parents and the ability for teens to notify their parents when they report an account or a piece of content.

Digital safety and digital monitoring have become key aspects of Digital Parenting in this modern digital age. It is crucial for Big-Tech companies to understand, adapt and ensure protection.

And the way forward, to scale up the project with participation from other states/ rural and tribal areas of India including government schools to make it more inclusive and diverse and further develop a comprehensive curriculum and workshop module for meaningful learning.
